Neptune in Paradise


Carole A. Feuerman is renowned as the mother of realistic life-cast figurative sculpture, and as an innovator in the technique of creating three-dimensional water drop imaging. Feuerman's super-real sculptures follow in the tradition of Duane Hanson, but are distinctly different in their attitudes. You won't find any of Hanson's fatigued or frustrated construction workers and waitresses. Feuerman's work is far more upbeat- she showcases healthy young women and girls in a variety of "wet gear", i.e. freshly bathed, in swimsuits and scuba gear, or caught in a downpour. What they all have in common is an intensity of immediate, ecstatic, ìof the momentî emotion. Feuerman succeeds in her effort to capture in her work the universal feelings that all humans share. Seasoned artist Sante Graziani returns to the Creiger-Dane Gallery with another series of beach-inspired paintings. Graziani's fundamental interest in painting the human form as an object of intense beauty and expressiveness against a backdrop of sky, sea and sand has remain unchanged for the past fifteen years. Recently, as he has visited a plethora of museums, he has attempted to visualize paintings without their frames, finding the result lacking in final effect and richness. He therefore took on the challenge of designing trompe l'oeil frames for his pieces. Finally, he has added layers to this of various textured and richly colored flora and fauna- the effect is a mixture of classic realism, fantasy, abstraction, and a little sense of heaven.
