Creiger-Dane Logospacer

About The Gallery

The Creiger-Dane Gallery came into being with two purposes in mind. The first was to represent art work of unquestionable quality, the second, to ensure the gallery promoted an atmosphere that is inviting and friendly to all who visit.

Creiger-Dane exhibits nationally and internationally known artists, as well as actively promotes regional artists. We are dedicated to exhibiting contemporary works, in all mediums. For the past four years, the spectrum has ranged from sculpture, paintings, and drawings, to photography, digital prints, and installation work.

Some of our recent exhibitions have included works by the following artists: Jonathan Borofsky, Peter Campus, Alan Magee, Robert Motherwell, Jim Dine, John Hoyland, Brian Clarke, James Winn, Patricia Tobacco Forrester, Margaret Grimes, Bill Sullivan and Tom Uttech. Regional artists include: Miroslav Antic, John Evans, Nan Freeman, Louis Gippetti, Harriet Casdin Silver, Ron Rizzi and Richard Rosenblum, Julie Graham, Valta Us, Dorothy Krause, Naomi Riber and David Davison.

After having worked in the corporate art field for over 25 years, it became evident to the gallery's owner, Joyce Creiger, that gaining access to the most accomplished contemporary artists was becoming increasingly difficult. At the same time, many corporations were deaccessioning their collections with little or no opportunity for resale. Therefore, reselling works was the original focus for the opening of Creiger-Dane Gallery. Representing artists was secondary. However, throughout the first year, it became apparent that Boston had a wealth of talented artists with limited opportunity to exhibit their work. Organizing innovative exhibitions and introducing collectors to the latest work by artists has been a welcome challenge.

The gallery is well into its fourth year and has gained an enthusiastic following. One of our most exciting exhibitions focused on digital imagery. We invited corporate sponsors to participate in an artist-designed billboard project to advertise the two month long exhibition. The show included animation by Karl Simms, interactive paint software designed by Matthew Winston, as well as digital-audio sculpture by Jonathan Borofsky on loan from the Paula Cooper Gallery. Over 41 artists participated in the exhibition curated by Harry Uman.

The future of the gallery includes many innovative exhibitions, as well as shows which will exist almost exclusively for educational purposes. We are also looking forward to a major show of sculpture of Reuben Nakian, planned for the fall of 1998. We encourage students, artists, and collectors to attend our exhibitions. It is always an exciting energetic atmosphere.
